CRDB Bank Plc has increased the prizes of its sponsorship at this year’s ‘CRDB Bank Taifa Cup’s competition to 300m/-.
The tournament was officially launched in Dar es Salaam on Thursday by Deputy House Speaker Tulia Ackson, bringing together 32 regional basketball teams.
Speaking in Dar Salaam on Thursday at the sideline of the official inauguration, CRDB Bank CRDB Bank Managing Director, Abdulmajid Nsekela said: “We have increased the prizes for this year’s ‘CRDB Bank Taifa Cup’ so as to bring motivation to young people.”
Nsekela also said that the CRDB bank’s sponsorship of the competition is nearing 300m/-. “We are eager to see many upcoming basketballers are participating at this year’s tournament.”
The CRDB Chief has further said: “It is our hope that the increase in prizes for this year’s competition will inspire the young generation to show out their abilities.”
“Our Bank has supported the national basketball competition for the second time as the move to empower Tanzanian youths through sports,” he observed.
Speaking shortly after launching the ‘CRDB Bank Taifa Cup’, the Deputy House Speaker said: “The sixth phase government under the leadership of President Samia Suluhu Hassan has prioritized sports as one of the sectors that stimulate economic growth of the nation.”
“I also take this opportunity to congratulate the CRDB Bank for sponsoring this tournament, of which in one way or another supporting the government’s efforts to develop sports in the country.”
The Deputy House Speaker has challenged stakeholders to continue supporting the participation of females in sports, she said: “The participation of women in sports has been lower compared to men. I hope the ‘CRDB Bank Taifa Cup’ will change this notion.”
On his part, Tanzania Basketball Federation (TBF) president, Phares Magesa lauds CRDB Bank for their support to the tournament, saying the sponsorship given by the bank stimulates the passion for the young generation in basketball.

However, this year’s ‘CRDB Bank Taifa Cup’ will be live through the Azam Sports 2 sports channel. The tournament will take place at Chinangali Stadium in Dodoma, the capital city from Nov 5-14 with a total prize of 29m/- to be given for winners.
