We commend the Government of Tanzania through the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of ICT for holding several engagements with the industry to discuss immediate and long term methods to both achieve Government’s ambitions to establish a (social development) solidarity fund as well as discuss the wider welfare of the sector.
Additionally, we commend the government for the reduction of 30% and exclusion of low value transactions in the implementation of the levies. We hope this relief coupled with the 10% reduction on of our fees on interoperable transactions will bring back customers that stopped transacting since the implementation.
In the era of 4IR, a thriving telecommunications sector plays an important role of enabling other sectors such as agritech, telemedicine and government payments and services, to name a few, to continue contributing to the growth of a Nation. To this end, members of TAMNOA are committed to continue to invest in new innovation but in order to realize this, we must remain profitable.
Therefore, in the medium to long term, it remains important for industry to work closely with Government in order to share insights and best practices on how to leverage digital platforms for tax collections working closely with regulators and other stakeholders to ensure a balanced private and public ambition.
