The President of Tanzania, Dr. John Magufuli has today launched the newly constructed Morogoro Central Market, named after Morogoro’s Chief Kingalu.
Speaking at the launching event, President Magufuli said that the market will boost business in the region as well as making it easy for government to collect taxes, among other benefits.
“Markets are very important for development. Firstly, farmers and business persons will have special areas to sell their produce and other goods, secondly citizens get places for services for their needs, and third, the government can collect taxes more easily in those areas,” Said Said Dr Magufuli.
“Also, different services such as places for for Banks and Telecoms can be provided,” He added.
“More importantly, markets allows farmers to get good prices for their produce, and it is my hope that this market which has 304 rooms and 900 enclosements will boost business and improve lives of the Morogoro residents”, said Dr Magufuli
President Magufuli government, has embarked on an ambitious program to improve infrastructure including; building markets and regional buses terminals, airports, expanding roads network and building flyovers in cities, construction of hydro-power plants the flagship project of the Central Corridor Standard Gauge Railway and revival of Air Tanzania. A move economic analysts says is a drive towards becoming East Africa’s economic powerhouse.
