The destiny of three famous political bigwigs within the ruling party, CCM, lies in the hands of its Central Committee planned to sit any time soon.
CCM Secretary General, Dr Bashiru Ally spoke to a news conference yesterday and explained that CCM is expected to have its meeting this week to discuss a report concerning two former Secretary Generals of the party Yusuph Makamba and Abdulrahman Kinana as well as former Cabinet Minister, Bernard Membe.
On February 12, this year, CCM issued a seven-day ultimatum to the party’s disciplinary committee, led by Deputy CCM Secretary-General (Mainland), Philip Mangula to complete its report over the three long-serving cadres and submit it to respective party organs.
Mr Kinana and Mr Makamba were grilled over their alleged violation of the party’s ethics and constitution. The two ex-secretaries appeared for interrogative, crushing rumors that they had declined to show up for the exercise.
The former party bigwigs together with former cabinet minister Benard Membe were ordered in December last year by the National Executive Council (NEC) to appear before the party’s disciplinary committee.
Mr Membe was interrogated last on February 04, in the country’s capital, Dodoma. Dr Bashiru gave the party’s progress on the fate of the former CCM leaders as he equally received 11 Councillors from Mbeya Region who had left from the opposition CHADEMA to CCM.
“The CCM sub-committee accomplished its work, and we expect that this Wednesday, the report will be submitted before the party’s defense and ethics committee after which the report will be available to the CCM at the end of this week,’’ said the party’s Secretary General.
Dr Bashiru said that after the CCM organizes its meeting, the party’s Ideology and Publicity Secretary, Humphrey Polepole would organize a press conference either in Dar es Salaam or Dodoma to address the public on the destiny of the three party’s bigwigs.
Asked on what the possible punishment they were likely to face, Dr Bashiru was insisting that it was subject to the party’s CCM meeting and that the party would consider the defense that would be presented before responsible authorities by all the three suspects.
